Felix's Expanding World

Here you see Felix enjoying beautiful Lake Washington. This was from earlier this month. I know that was a little while ago but I've been pretty busy and I have been neglecting the blog. I had several pictures that went along with the one above and I was going to blog about the time we had at the beach. But, time passes, memories fade, and the past becomes a jumbled mess of partial recollections. I thought I would make that the theme of this post.
Last weekend we went camping on the Olympic Peninsula. Here you see Felix commanding the smoke of our bonfire.
He had a good time camping, maybe because we only stayed one night. The forecast called for rain the next night so we left. But not before we swung out to the coast. From the look of the picture you may think we went in January, but that is August.

As you see him in the picture below, Felix lied across the back of his mother's chair and said that he was a "jaguar hanging", like a jaguar lounging on a tree limb in the Amazon. I don't know where he learned about jaguars but it made me realize that there is world of his that I don't know anything about. He visits friends where they will speak of things and share concepts that I won't be able to understand. He spoke of being a jaguar hanging, a concept he learned about outside my knowledge, drawing upon the memory of a context I'll never know. I further realize that this blog will continue to get less and less relevant to the actual events and thoughts of his life. I wonder if one day he will take over this blog. That thought makes me a little sad, there was a time when his mother and I knew everything that happened to him and everything he did. We could predict behavior (I don't mean as in good/bad behavior), and easily understood, even with his less sophisticated language, where he may have gotten the impression to do or say a certain thing. His world is bigger than me.

With that said, we just found out last Monday that he was accepted to Montessori school. He starts September 2nd. There is actually a long story that goes with that, I will save that tale for the First Day of School post.
